Book Club Reading Groups

Download Application

Book Club is a great new idea for independent readers.

As young readers continue to enhance their reading skills, a guided reading group may prove more productive and useful than an individual tutoring session.

Small groups of children, clustered among those of similar age, reading skill and interests, assemble weekly for 50 minutes. Discussions are centered around the chapters read at home prior to each session. With a reading list curated by The Reading Whisperer, we meet to discuss the chapters everyone has read the past week.

Book Club Addresses The Needs of Advanced Readers

Many children note how one or both parents belong to a book club. And just like Mom or Dad, students can participate in this same pursuit. Just like their parents they can contribute suggestions for books everyone can read and arrive at a consensus with their reading peers.

And also just like Mom or Dad, these young readers can review and answer a guided question list, designed to reinforce comprehension.

As young readers’ interests mature, a Book Club setting provides a very adult-like setting for sharing common interests with their peers and fertile ground for academic growth in the process.

The Book Club is designed to be fun. In the process we enhance reading skills.

Book Club provides a social setting for reading enthusiasts to gather with fellow lovers of books and engage in the sport of reading. In the process we enhance reading skills by offering the chance to read aloud, engage in vigorous discussions of content, answer comprehension questions, wonder about alternative endings and be part of selecting the next book for their group.

Readers can join with friends into the same group.

Children can express their interests in a specific book series or subject matter and be matched up into a group with those of a similar age, reading skill and interests.
As young readers continue to enhance their reading skills, a guided reading group may prove more productive and useful than an individual tutoring session.
